IMMUNE SYSTEM
The immune system consists of special organs, cells and chemicals that protect and fight infection. The immune system is essential for our survival. Without an immune system, our bodies wouldn’t be able to fight bacteria, viruses or parasites.
Generally, our immune system becomes stronger during adulthood. However, being a complex system, the immune system may weaken. The most commonly-accepted recommendations to strengthen the immune system include getting enough sleep; eating adequate vegetables and fruits; eating more healthy fats; eating more fermented foods; and limiting added sugars. Avoiding polluted areas, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking are also best practice for strengthening your immune system.
Any interruptions, blockage, or diseases that affect how the heart or blood vessels pump blood can cause complications such as heart disease.
Because modern lifestyles are full of stress and habits that are bad for wellbeing, it is often recommended to take food supplements and vitamins in order to support the immune system.
ANTIOXIDANTS
Antioxidants are substances that prevent or slow damage to cells caused by free radicals. Free radicals are oxygen-containing molecules with an uneven number of electrons. Free radicals are linked to ageing and diseases. Factors that increase the production of free radicals in the body include inflammation, air pollution and cigarette smoke.
Antioxidants help neutralise free radicals in our bodies, which positively affects our health. Vitamins A, C, E, lutein, selenium and manganese may serve as antioxidants.
Plant-based foods, especially fruits and vegetables, are high in antioxidants. Eggs, liver, most fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, rice, wheat and other whole grains, eggplants, green and black teas, red grapes are good sources of antioxidants.
VITAMINS AND MINERALS
Vitamins and minerals are important to maintain your immune health. Your best option is to get the necessary vitamins and minerals from a healthy diet.
However, there are food supplements that could benefit your immune system and keep it strong. In order to work properly, the immune system needs sufficient quantities of vitamins A, C, D, and E as well as iron, selenium and zinc.
